The Pesky Piriformis! A literal pain in the butt!

Let's talk about the Piriformis Muscle. It might be one of the most well-known and hated muscles in the body. If you haven't heard of it, it's this tiny muscle deep in your glute (butt cheek) and it's a major over-achiever! If anything else isn't doing it's job- like your core or the larger glute muscles- you better bet your butt (😂), the piriformis is going to step up to do the job.

It get's tight and painful from all of the overuse and gets a bad rap for it.I can't tell you how many people we see on a weekly basis who have piriformis pain and the only approach to it so far has been to roll and stretch the heck out that poor over-achiever.

BUTT (😂) there is so much more you can do for Piriformis Syndrome/ Pain/ Tightness!

What you need to know about Piriformis Pain

If you're sufering with Piriformis Pain- here is what we want you to know and look out for!

Piriformis is a muscle within the glutes that sits deep within your buttocks and stretches from your pelvis to the top of your femur (thigh bone). A very important thing to note is that the sciatic nerve runs through the middle of this muscle, think the floss that is between two teeth. When our piriformis gets too tight or overused it will compress the sciatic nerve and cause pain, numbness or cause you to become uncomfortable sitting. Do not fret though my friends this can be fixed and prevented! Through specific testing, treatments and home care we can get you back to doing all the activities you love that the piriformis has made unbearable!

If your Piriformis Pain has started to turn into what we call "Sciatica" meaning that is is causing pain, numbness, etc down into the leg- click HERE for more info about Sciatica
